It is always exciting to be invited, to a social gathering, because this is where you can learn a lot from other guest's,personal experiences, which they would like to share.
Fortunately for me, I was invited to visit our local glass blowing business,so when this topic became one of more popular subjects, I was able to to understand the technologies for glass blowing.
Glass blowing is the process that is used to shape glass and other special glass artifacts for all to enjoy.
The key ingredients are, limestone, sand ,potash and soda ash. They must be combined and then heated in a furnace, at a in access of 2000 degrees. This process creates the molten glass state, thus the art of glass blowing is performed.
In order for the artist to perform glass blowing, they will need the (Blow Pipe). This tool is a steel pipe, with an air passage way throughout the entire length. One end has the mouth peace, while the other end has the larger built up area for the molten glass to gather and blow the bubble on The tip of the blow pipe is preheated by dipping it into the molten glass as it sits in the furnace.
The ball of molten glass, is then gathered on the pipe and rolled onto the marver tool. The marver tool is a flat steel plate that is used for picking up color chips,or the shaping of the molten glass at the end of the blow pipe.
This continuous rolling action will be used with the eneven cooling of the glass for the desired effect. The marver tool, is used again to cool the exterior layer on the glass, allowing it to be shaped.
The artist blows air into the blow pipe to form a bubble with the molten glass.
The glass blowing process, creates a variety of shapes created by using the tool, know as tweezers.
The paddles are used to design the flat areas of the glass.
More great stuff from social gatherings.
